Dr. Simeon Brown ( d. 1760) was an early settler of Rocks Village. Coming from Kingston, NH., he bought 19 acres of land from John Swett in 1742, north of E. Main St., and lived in a house on River Road. The house burned down in 1748. According to Phineas Nichols, there were but 4 houses in the village in the 1740’s, and Dr. Brown’s was one of them. He married Mrs. Hannah (Brown) Young, and they had several children registered in Haverhill. One son, Henry Young Brown, received a land grant near Fryeberg, ME and founded the town of Brownfield, Maine as well as Fryeberg Academy. Simeon’s sons later sold the River Road land to James Carr (1773).

Enoch Browne bought a small lot along River Road from John Swett in 1733.

Abigail Parker (1777 – 1859), who owned land on Wharf Lane, married Dea. Moses Brown of West Newbury. Formerly married to Frederick Parker. Buried in Greenwood

Whether any of these Browns are related has not yet been resolved.

Account of burning of Dr. Brown’s house from [Chase] p. 324, quoted from [Mirick]:

“The house of Dr. H. Brown, at Holt’s Rocks, was destroyed by
fire on the 22d of January (1748), and his daughter, aged 23 years,
and a young man who was then living with him, a son of D. Currier,
were burnt to death. Their remains were interred in a field, now
overgrown with trees, owned by John Johnson Esq., and grave-
stones erected to their memory. But they are thrown down and so
broken and defaced, that the letters are nearly illegible. With the
assistance of Mr, Johnson, we found them, lying flat on the ground,
and nearly concealed from view. It is a very romantic situation, on
the side of a hill covered with young sycamores, and which slopes
gently until it reaches the Merrimack. This gentleman also informs
us that other persons, principally infants, were buried in the same
place ; but no monuments were erected to their memory, and the
mounds have totally disappeared.”

Dr. Simeon Brown, youngest child of Joseph and Sarah Brown, settled in Kingston, NH, where he was a practicing physician, and subsequently followed that profession in Haverhill, MA.  NH deeds show that he purchased land from Samuel Fifield and Abigail Clifford, June 16, 1736. The executors of his estate sold land in Kingston July 8, 1765. He married in Kingston, March 13, 1729, Hannah daughter of Henry Young. Part of their children are recorded in Haverhill, Namely: Hannah (1743 – ), Simeon (1746 – ), Anne (1748 – ), Ruth (1750 – ), Benaiah (1754 – ). Two are recorded in Kingston, namely, Susannah (1732 – died young), Susannah (1735 – ). Among the children of Dr. Simeon Brown was Henry Young Brown, a Captain in the French and Indian War, who received a grant of land in recognition of conspicuous service, and was the founder of Brownfield, Maine.  Another son was Nathaniel.

Henry Young Brown as a captain during the French war and had three grants of land given to him near Fryeberg on which he was to settle 38 families by June 10, 1770. The land consisted of 8,566 acres and was known as Brownfield. He was one of the founders of Fryeberg Academy.

Abigail Parker, who owned land at the end of Wharf Lane, married Dea. Moses Brown of West Newbury in 1832. She is mentioned as Abigail Brown in deed 303/99 dated 1837 when Frederick Ladd of Boston sells to John Ladd of Newburyport, #22 Wharf Lane, Nathaniel Ladd’s former house.

(POSSIBLY WAS MARRIED IN ENGLAND) OR–Possibly in front of Rev. Parker before records were kept. She died 12 Apr 1647 in Newbury, Massachusetts. He married (2) Elizabeth Greenleaf Badger 18 Feb 1648 in Newbury, Massachusetts.

Richard came to America with ( Edith ???? in confirmed ) and brother George on the ship “Mary and John” which sailed from Southampton, England 24 Mar 1633/34. His brother Michael and father (unnamed: possibly William ) remained in England. around Calne. Wiltshire area.

They lived first at Ipswich, Massachusetts where he made himself useful to the community,was admitted freeman in 1635 and was appointed constable there in that year. They moved to Newbury. He became a, Businessman (partners in a cattle company) and a Teacher, Preacher.
