Getchell Family

The branch of the Getchell family that comes to Rocks Village came from West Monkton, Somersetshire, England according to WikiTree. They live in Salisbury, MA and then go to York ME.

The first Getchell associated with Rocks Village was Susanna (Ladd) Getchell. She was Daniel Corlis Ladd’s daughter and married Nathaniel Getchell. Nathaniel and Susanna’s children were all born in Haverhill according to Haverhill’s vital records. Her daughter Susanna  (Nathaniel/Susanna Ladd), Samuel (Salisbury), Samuel, Thomas) marries John Virgil Young. Daniel Ladd’s probate # 16113 dated 1 Jul 1751 lists Susanna (Ladd) Getchell’s children as receiving 2 pounds, 17 shillings.

Susanna’s distant nephew Jorden was born in Well, ME and marries the daughter of underground railroad fame Daniel C. and Lydia (Williams) Hoyt. Mary Hoyt’s brother Humphrey also owned a house in Rocks Village for a short time.
Two of Jordon and Mary’s children live in Rocks Village for the remainder of their lives.  Charles who marries Mary Oakes and Augusta who marries Edward Little of Wharf Lane.

Jordon’s son Charles buys Silloway Tavern in 1911 and land on Colby Lane in 1893, 34 Wharf Lane from father in 1898. Land under Joshua Emery House: 36 River Road in 1910. Samuel Estabrooks: 20 Wharf Lane in 1891. He is a carpenter.

Jordon’s daughter Augusta Getchell marries Edward Little. Edward W. Little Male Shoemaker 2nd marriage Haverhill Father: Moses C. Mother: Dolly J. They live on on Wharf Lane and share access to the spring with 22 and 34 Wharf Lane.
