Maynard Family

The original Maynard family came from Marlborough New Zealand to Marlborough Mass.  Samuel, Elmira, Freeman, John H., and Catherine were prominent in Rocks Village in the mid 1800s.  John married in Marlborough in 1842.  Almira and Catherine did not marry.  Samuel D. married in Haverhill in 1835.  Freeman Forest Maynard (1864) did not marry.

Samuel owned a store on East Main Street and Almira also owned a store.

1872 city directory:  Ms. Almira Maynard, home and variety store near bridge. Also listed, Ms. Kate Maynard (sister of Almira)

First, the Historical Society has recently received from the estate of
Mrs. John Newcomb, the Commission of Postmaster, signed by Jacob
Collamer, Postmaster General of the United States in 1849, appointing
Samuel D. Maynard Postmaster of East Haverhill.

He was a prominent shoe manufacturer of the city of Haverhill; was a Republican in politics and a member of the Baptist church.

Sarah A. Maynard probate # 46433 dated 1856. This is Samuel D.’s Wife Sarah George.  Guardianship of Sarah Augusta and Ellen Stowe Maynard.  Sarah Augusta gets one undivided half of about 3 acres is Haverhill worth $22.50. Also gets 285.00 cash in hand of executor of Sarah George.  Ellen gets same

1864:  John W. Ladd to Elmira Maynard (671/138) $237.00  (bounded by Eben Colby, Swett’s Lane, Main Street, and William Sawyer) Excluding the privy which belonged to other parties.

Perhaps when Elimira dies she gives it to her niece Sarah Augusta?

1859: Freeman F. Maynard to Catherine H. (ux John) (597/272). Described in deed from Samuel Elliot to Freeman Maynard (573/262), 573/260 – 1856 Samuel Elliott, 573/260 – from Samuel D. Maynard.

1891:  Olive J. Maynard to Sarah A. Hunkins (1305/542): Southerly by highway from Plaistow to Rocks Bridge, Easterly by Robert Stuart, northerly by Hunkins and Samuel Chapman, westerly by Howe and Chapman containing 10 acres.  Olive is wife and executor of Samuel D. Maynard. Also 6 acres, E. S. Hunkins, G. W. Davis, E Hills.  also lot of land, 4 acres in Amesbury: E S Hunkins, D. A. Hoyt, John Evans. Also another lot in Amesbury.
