Built in 1795.
The house is 1.5 stories in height and did not originally have any windows installed at the back of the house. There are two chimneys on the house, one on each gable end, thus to accommodate two separate living quarters. The home does not much resemble its original appearance owing to an extensive renovation undertaken by its current owners. Dr. Timothy Kenison a subsequent owner of the home.
It is thought that the house was the village bakery at one point because it has a large brick fireplace in the basement as well as a brick Dutch oven for baking breads/pies. Both are still there. Bakeries usually had their fireplaces in the basement since it is cooler.
John Ingersoll (Zeb’s Son) has 2 probates. One in 1815, the other dated 1816 but containing docs from 1826 and 1833.
It seems the committee on the first probate didn’t find the #20 real
estate. It only inventoried personal estate and the 1/2 dwelling house.
Even though John’s will gave all to Nancy, the court orders that 2/3 of
estate must go to child John.
The 1816 probate for John Ingersoll has James Kimball giving up guardianship and Uriah
Bailey taking it, as you mentioned, in 1826 I think. New inventory of
real estate shows a one-sixth (?) part of some land near the house
bordering Zeb heirs land (behind or possibly toward river, not sure) and
the #20 land (40 R) . Uriah argues that the rents on the land are
insufficient to cover expenses because the buildings are “out of repair”
– I read this as the buildings on #20, but I”m not positive of that. So
he asks to sell real estate for John G. The court approves. Not sure how
it was sold,no public auction that I saw, but I’m guessing to E. Foot
(who was also involved in the probate)
